diary : january 2008
We're off to Buenos Aires! This is the
first time south of the equator for me (How spent a drunken Carnival
weekend in Rio ages ago.) We picked BA because
it's supposed to be lovely, cosmopolitan & cheap. Oh, and did I
mention, it's summer there? Like, with long warm days? I
picked up some software & have been studying Spanish for the first time
since high school. My skills are a bit, uh, rusty. Pero,
muchas gracias a mi maestra en escuela, Sra. Gmeindl (Sparlin al tiempo)!
So far, it's two-thumbs-up for our new studio apartment
off of Alamo Square;
since it opens up right onto a yard, it doesn't yet seem too congested
with the two dogs. I swear, I never thought it would happen, but I
think the 2 hoodlums are finally growing up & mellowing out. A bit.
Just a bit.
Just before leaving
for Bs As,
we lost our dear
friend Thor: Thor was the lone American killed in the
Taliban attack on 1/14/08 at Kabul's Serena Hotel. After a
decade of campaign & logistics work in the US, including work on the
Clinton-Gore ticket, Thor went overseas to help new governments get
their shit together, first in Kosovo, and most recently in Kabul.
