GSDs in the snow up in the SierrasWe spent New Year's Eve at the circus:  Cirque du Soleil specifically, and the show, Corteo, is fantastic as usual. There's a pillow fight between acrobats on huge moving beds.  Acrobats hanging from chandeliers.  There's even a dwarf "clowness" who floats over the audience suspended from a helium balloon - I was one of the lucky ones to give her an assist by letting her push off of my upraised hands with her feet!  Pretty magical.

Allison & a retired racing greyhoundThe next weekend I flew to LA to visit sister Steph & hubby Peter & all their hounds (4 Irish Wolfhounds & 2 retired racing Greyhounds) and to say goodbye to their lovely home.  They'd been in LA almost 7 years, the longest they'd stayed anywhere, but Peter got a terrific job offer in San Diego & they're pulling up the stakes.  The hounds will miss the avocado trees, which they pick from by standing on their hind legs.  Apparently, avocados are yummy to man and beast!

I also started getting involved with Golden State Greyhound Adoptions, a local rescue group.  We work with folks in CO, who pull dogs from tracks, vet them, and then fly them to SF, where we adopt them out.  There's usually a "meet-and-greet" every month in my neighborhood, but the most fun is meeting the dogs at the airport.  They come in as cargo, and we have to welcome them to SF, break down the crates & send them back to CO, and bring the dogs to their new forever homes.  Greys are so sweet & gentle, that even meeting a pooch for the first time feels like greeting a long-lost love!

We also started Rebel on a month-long heartworm treatment - though virtually unknown in most areas, heartworm was diagnosed in about 80% of the animals pulled out of New Orleans.  It's tricky to treat, and my vet didn't even remember how to do it, it'd been so long since he'd seen a case.  Paws crossed for a speedy recovery...
