Carli! And Shepsie! And Heidi! Oh, my!

How wrastlin' with the 3 pooches Yup, we currently have THREE GSDs.  We started by fostering little Carli, who was about to be euthanized because she has a chronic eye condition called pannis.  This is through a great rescue organization, German Shepherd Rescue of Northern California.  After two weeks, there was an interested adopter, so we shipped her off to her new home, and adopted Shepsie, a 6-month old pup we'd found.  Then Carli was shipped back, so we're currently up to our ears in dogs. And since Carli developed epilepsy, we're really jumping! :P

How argued in court this month against Microsoft as part of his work on the big class-action settlement in California for his firm, SRC. Pretty exciting - went very well, too! "I'm not a lawyer, but I play one...in court!"

How & I motoring through Oakland on segways We took a little vacation over my birthday weekend.  It started right in Oakland, where How picked me up at work - on a Segway!  He'd arranged a tour on these new-fangled contraptions and we had a great time.  They're easier to learn to ride than you'd expect (especially since Bush fell off one...)  We then jetted down to Long Beach & spent the night on the Queen Mary - the old cruise liner now docked & used as a hotel.  It was fascinating to tour - it's in remarkably good & authentic condition.  I later learned that when it served as a troop ship during WWII, it brought my dad back to the US!!

How playing skeeball on CatalinaThe next day we boated over to Catalina Island, which neither How nor I had seen since we were teens. It's a beautiful place - totally touristy in Avalon (the one town) but somehow still manages to be charming & endearing.  We took some walks, ate a fabulous brunch at the golf course built by the Wrigley (chewing gum) family, and I managed to fall off a horse (again) on a tame trail ride.  This is starting to become a habit...
