diary : january 2003

Picture Al Franken riding a miniature horse.  No, it didn't work for me either.  But they were both part of my January experience!

Arn surprised by his birthday cake during the SuperbowlI've enjoyed Al on SNL & books on tape but had never seen him in person.  We listened to him speak in an "interview" format sponsored by the City Arts & Lecture series, and we were delighted when someone asked him our question, "When the hell are you going to become our AM radio left-wing spokesperson a la Rush Limbaugh?" (Answer - typical Democrat - "I'm looking at my options.")

At some other point I played with miniature horses at the Exploratorium (SF's world-class science museum).  They are CUTE, and pint-sized.  My sister Steph's wolfhounds would stand shoulder to shoulder.  I start to fantasize about keeping one in the backyard of our new house.

We saw my folks, Howard's dad & step-mom, and our college pal Maren & her family all this month.  Arn, Howard's dad, had his birthday during our Super Bowl party - how convenient!  My mom, at 70 plus, still skis better than me. Some things never change.
