diary : january 2001 Well, if you're following the drama at all - I have a new job! I did just what you're supposed to do: treat job hunting like a job itself. Even in the "workers market" out here in SF, to get a job I really wanted, I had to roll up my shirt sleeves. I joined a small IT group at Goodwill Industries - yup, the people who, well, what is it they do? Sell clothing cheap to homeless folks? Not so! They sell clothes cheap to folks who can afford it. They use that money to run one of the most successful employment training programs around, focusing on taking the unemployable and getting them employed and paying taxes. Those people staffing the stores where you get the great deals? Might have been homeless last week. Might be kicking a drug addiction. Definitely want a better life. I've only been there about a week and it's been great. My two most immediate tasks are to get an intranet up & running and then turn around their existing website. I'll also be doing training & application support. This month I also fulfilled a long-time dream by seeing Mozart's opera, the Magic Flute, in a production by the SF Opera Company. I first got hooked on Mozart when studying guitar in high school, then on the Magic Flute when (I admit it) the movie Amadeus came out. So you could say I've waited more than 20 years to see it!
